What do you do if you damage your composite decking |
|
31 Jul 2019 | You have your stunning composite decking down and you damage it so what should you do, well a lot depends on the type of decking you have so first and foremost you should consult the manufacture or the supplier to seek advice.
A lot will depend on the type of decking you have purchased and the surface finishing you have, is it embossed grooved, capped or mono decking.
Let us go into some of the potential options, some of the manufacturers will offer the basic mono composite decking which has no polymer layers on top and often come with a sanded finish so it is quite easy therefore with slight surface damage to repair these by lightly sanding out and any discolouration after sanding will weather in time and catch up with the rest of the board. Some mono boards will come with a brushed effect so these will need a fine wire brush or wire wool to repair the damaged area, if you have a mono deck with embossed or elevated surface these are more difficult to repair so may entail replacement of the board.
Repairing capped or type 2 composite decking is more difficult as they have a polymer coating on top which in turn is designed to give more protection but in extreme cases when this is damaged it may just entail replacement, again seek your suppliers advice.
Latest composite decking which has very complex artwork mimicking wood patterns so be very careful with these as the surface will be further damaged with rectification so again this might mean replacement of the board itself.
Just useful tips to help enjoy your composite decking.
